Pampering Mothers at the End of Life

Samaritan Partners with the Lauren Rose Albert Foundation

Samaritan social workers will deliver the bags filled with women’s health and beauty products to mothers in the community, including those who are receiving hospice care from Samaritan Healthcare & Hospice. The Mother’s Day gift baskets, which are generously donated by the Lauren Rose Albert Foundation, are filled with an assortment of shower gels, shampoos, scented powders and lotions donated by area schools, businesses, organizations and individuals. Each basket carries the special message “Mothers Matter.” Volunteers help to assemble and decorate the baskets, then deliver them to women’s shelters, children’s pediatric hospital wards, daycare centers, hospices and special moms throughout the community.

Samaritan Healthcare & Hospice is the regional leader for hospice care, palliative medicine, grief support and counseling, geriatric care management and end-of-life education and advocacy. In addition to hospice services covered by Medicare, Medicaid, VA and private insurers, Samaritan’s healthcare services offer a range of options earlier in the care continuum. Thanks to generous community support, Samaritan Hospice provides more than $1.25 million each year in essential, yet non-reimbursed, services in addition to its insurance-covered services. Samaritan is a not-for-profit, non-sectarian community-based organization serving people in Atlantic, Burlington, Camden, Gloucester and Mercer counties who are coping with serious illness or grief. The Lauren Rose Albert Foundation is a 501 (c)3 not-for-profit organization established in 2000 by Lauren's parents, family and friends to honor her memory. The Foundation's credo – "Mothers Matter" – is a tribute to Lauren and a mother's love; the Mission – to encourage mothers to achieve economically and educationally and to seek brighter futures for themselves and their families – reflects Lauren's legacy of helping others lead better lives. Since 2001 the Foundation has touched the lives of thousands of women in southern New Jersey and Philadelphia through the following programs: Mothers Matter Gift Basket Program and Mothers Matter Community Outreach program.
