(Haddonfield, New Jersey). As Brandywine Senior Living was preparing to secure the Haddonfield Home after relocating the current residents to other communities, the team looked around and saw many useful items that they thought could be well utilized by other organizations serving the Haddonfield community. These items included pianos, lawn furniture, wall hangings, picnic tables and several weeks’ worth of food products.
The Brandywine Team got busy reaching out to local community agencies who they thought could put these items to good use. Soon, trucks were loaded and cars waited in line to receive goods. Notably, Brandywine Senior Living gave food, furniture and household items to local not-for-profit businesses such as My Father’s House (a therapeutic counseling center), the Markeim Art Center, the Presbyterian Church, and the local senior center known as the Mabel Kay House.
Dory Mann, Director of the Mabel Kay House, was overwhelmed with the delivery of furniture and kitchen goods. But what really brought on a huge smile of gratitude was the organ and piano. “I love my job,” she said. “We use this space for small group programming and meetings. It’s a safe haven for people in the area to congregate and have fun. Our center relies so much on the donations we receive. Mrs. Bailey (Director of Dining Services at Brandywine Senior Living at Haddonfield) touched my heart by offering us kitchen items that will be put to good use.”
Ms. Mann had already planned a picnic and was thrilled when Brandywine offered picnic tables and lawn furniture – that came right in time to host over 50 people.
The Presbyterian Church directed Brandywine to the Food Bank of South Jersey located in Camden. Three carloads of food and supplies were delivered to the church to assist with their soup kitchen supplies.
Brandywine Senior Living at Haddonfield (formerly the Haddonfield Home) is currently applying to the Borough to replace the current addition with a state-of-the-art assisted living community. Should this be approved, they hope the Haddonfield community will join them in welcoming their residents back to Haddonfield.
