All year long, the Haddon Township High School boys’ cross-country team has won meets, thanks to a tight pack of runners who can all keep up the same pace. With 147 runners entered into Saturday’s Group 1 Championship race at Holmdel, it figured that there might be a little bit of separation this time around.

Think again.

Hawks runners finished 12 through 15 to lead the team to a first-place finish in Group 1. The Hawks finished with 77 points, 14 better than second-place Matuchen. Andrew Shaw led the way, finishing in 17:16, with Owen Long (17:19), Trey Thatcher (17:22) and Luke Kessler (17:28) finishing right behind. Chris Loper clinched the match by placing 39.

On the girls’ side, the Hawks' Alicia Pipkin punched her ticket to the meet of champions with a 10th-place finish in Group 1. Pipkin completed the course in 20:31. This marks the second-straight year Pipkin has advanced to the meet of champions.

Haddonfield also had a strong showing in Group 2. Greg Halla was once again the Bulldawgs’ top runner, finishing fourth overall in 16:13. He was just six seconds behind Group 2 winner Craig Corti, of Wallkill Valley. Alex Gigliotti (21st) was the next Bulldawg to cross the line, followed by John Greenberg (32nd) and Danny Brennan (33rd).

Haddonfield finished third in Group 2, which was won by host Holmdel.

Megan Malloy kept her outstanding season going with a third-place finish. Malloy crossed the line in 19:13. The race was won by High Point’s Sarah Disanza, who ran away from the field at 18:29. Shelby Cain was just short of reaching the top 12, placing 13th in 19:43. Lauren DeCoursey (44th), Meredeth Raphelson (51st) and Clair Plunkett (67th) rounded out the scoring for Haddonfield.
