Man Dies in Lawnside Police Custody, Prosecutor Investigating

Rodney Terry of Williamstown died after being arrested following a disturbance in Lawnside Thursday evening.

The Camden County Prosecutor's Office is looking into how a man in Lawnside Police custody died Thursday evening.

Rodney Terry, 47, of Williamstown, was arrested about 6:30 p.m. after police saw him throwing rocks and yelling at a home on Charleston Avenue in Lawnside, according to the prosecutor's office.

Jason Laughlin, spokesman for the prosecutor, provided the following account:

Police handcuffed Terry and place him in the rear of a police cruiser. The officers called Emergency Medical Services because of Terry's behavior.

When EMTs removed Terry from the vehicle, he wasn't breathing.

Terry was pronounced dead at Kennedy University Hospital in Stratford at 7:53 p.m. Thursday.

The prosecutor’s office will release the cause and manner of Terry’s death when it's available, Laughlin said.
