Road Construction Today Near Central School
Intersection of Washington and Lincoln avenues in Haddonfield will be closed part of the day.
Road construction today could make student drop-offs at Central Elementary and the middle schools a bit challenging.
Washington Avenue, from Kings Highway East to Lincoln Avenue, will be repaved today, borough officials said. Construction crews will begin at the intersection of Washington Avenue and Kings Highway and work east toward Lincoln Avenue.
Many parents drop off students at the corner of Lincoln and Washington and then make a U-turn on Washington to turn around. They will be able to do that in the morning, but not in the afternoon today.
Motorists will also not be able to make a right turn on to Washington Avenue by early afternoon.
The work is scheduled to be completed Thursday, borough Administrator Sharon McCullough said. The road construction had been delayed this summer by protests over sidewalks that will be installed on parts of Washington Avenue and by rain.

Work was delayed due to protests? I think it was delayed due to incompetence. The commissioners knew they wanted to put these sidewalks in these locations for several years. And instead of making the homeowners part of the discussion, they waited until contracts were signed and moments before the trucks were about to roll. It is only because of this incompetence, that they had to delay. They put in sidewalks and right next to them they plant oak trees. They make it a law that homeowners are responsible to maintain this “improvement”, even when a town tree (which you may not touch) lifts or cracks the sidewalks. Insane. How can a commissioner argue that it is required for safety, but only put the sidewalk on one side of the road? Why not both sides? And these same people think they can manage the Bancroft site? The town installs and repairs sidewalks when and where they choose, using our tax dollars. Be nice, or they will make you pay for yours yourself.

DELAYED BY RAIN? OVER THE PAST WEEK? WHAT ABOUT THE ENTIRE DRY SUMMER? MORE NONSENSE.

We're experiencing a rush of school related construction at the worst time because the borough is finally catching to the growing discontent from residents all over town.
They're in scramble mode because their voting base for the bancroft/turf/sports complex tax increase disaster is parents. A few days ago they hired a landscaping company to pull weeds at Tatum school! They could have just sent borough workers over there during the summer to main the property instead of spending tax payer money to spruce up the look for opening day. Ever notice how most of the projects they spend tax payer money on are for appearance as opposed to maintenance and repair? If the commissioners stayed on top of things and repaired them from the get go we would save huge sums of tax payer dollars. They just aren't interested in governing in an efficient manner. Anyone can spend money, it takes a capable public servant with an eye on fiscal responsibility to keep the town's overwhelming debt under control. This is exactly why we're 46 million dollars in debt. They have no interest in doing it any other way.
This is why it's time to tap into the wealth of talented and passionate residents of our town and bring back common sense, fiscally sound government with an eye on every citizen and a renewed commitment to the values of historic Haddonfield.
