The Great Escape: Center City District Restaurant Week

Need somewhere to escape this weekend? Check out the hottest local spots.

This week (September 12-16) is Center City District's Restaurant week right over the bridge in Philadelphia. If you need to escape this week--you need to book a reservation and get a delicious meal at a four star restaurant for a reasonable price. Restaurants are featuring special three-course, prix-fixe lunches ($20) and dinners ($35) at participating restaurants.

Click here for the list of restaurants in the Center City district that are participating.

My personal favorite on the list is Bridget Foy's on 200 South St. I have enjoyed their al fresco dining several times during the lunch hour. They have a large craft beer selection that is excellent when pairing with their savory dishes. The pulled pork empanadas are out of this world. They pack a flavorful punch of Southwest seasonings that are to die for. I am also a big fan of their standard burger which is large enough to split. The Wisconsin cheddar paired with the brioche bun and a cold Hoegarden is sure to satisfy all of your hunger needs.

Patch reader, Jennifer Mulrooney, picks El Vez  as her Center City District Restaurant week favorite. She says, "My fave dish is the fish tacos. They are amazing." Mulrooney also says, "The real reason to go there are their many variations on a Mexican-favorite, guacamole. Each one has its own flare that is unforgettable."

Mulrooney recommends El Vez especially for their atmosphere. She says, "It's fancy enough for a proper date, but laid back enough so you can go casual in jeans and a cute top and enjoy their food and drinks."

Mulrooney also says, "Reservations are a must on the weekends, but if you can't get one El Vez is an awesome spot to set off your night in the city."

Either of those restaurants, along with many others are a great place to escape this weekend. So, go ahead, enjoy yourself. You deserve it.
