Kelly Nelson said her mother was in on it.

"She drove me here in the morning and said she had to pick something up and we stopped in the parking lot of the Taproom Grill restaurant and I saw it," Kelly said.

What she saw was her named spelled out in giant letters across the fence of the high school athletic complex on Crystal Lake Boulevard. It was part of a very elaborate invitation to the prom from fellow senior, Pat Burns, a lifelong friend.

"KELLY PROM? ♥ PAT," said the larger than life, panoramic sign, made with 1,000 foam cups stuffed into a chain-linked fence.

And her answer...

"Yes! Of course, yes! she said.
