Top Dawg of the Week: Taylor Sehdev

Taylor Sehdev has four shutouts in four games as the Haddonfield girls' soccer team goalie.

Each week Haddonfield Patch will highlight one local athlete who has produced a standout performance in his or her sport.

Name: Taylor Sehdev

Year: Freshman

Team: Haddonfield girls’ soccer

Position: Goaltender

Accomplishment: Sehdev has been nothing short of remarkable during her brief career with the Bulldawgs. In four games this season, she has posted four shutouts. Sehdev proved the pressure of being a varsity starter as a freshman was not too much for her last Monday when she helped Haddonfield record a 1-0 win over rival West Deptford under the lights in West Deptford Park.

How she’s done it: Any goalie will tell you a shutout is not a personal accomplishment, but a team one. Haddonfield prides itself on playing shut-down defense, limiting scoring opportunities for the opposition. The back line of Bridget Yako, Gretchen Kipp, Olivia Blaber and Mary Claire have forced opposing attackers to the sidelines and have made sure any shots that come Sehdev’s way have been from long range.

When Sehdev has been tested, her quick reflexes and athleticism has allowed her to keep everything out of the net.

Coach’s take: “If you talked to me in June, I was scared to death about who we were going to put in goal,” Haddonfield coach Glenn Gess said following a 1-0 win over West Deptford. “But Taylor has worked so hard. I’m proud of her. She’s been fantastic.”
