What Would You Improve in Haddonfield and Haddon Twp. in 2013?

If you could make a New Year's resolution for your town, what would it be?

More than 45 percent of Americans make a resolution every year, according to statisticbrain.com. Some people vow to live a healthier lifestyle, others promise to spend more time with family, and many say they will try to save money.

As millions of Americans make resolutions to improve their lives, what could we do right here in Haddonfield and Haddon Township to make them even better places to live?

Would you focus on business development? Do you want any changes to parks? New rec programs for kids? Something else?

Tell us in the comment section below what's on your Haddonfield and Haddon Township wish list for 2013.

Let's keep Haddonfield affordable for ALL residents by reining in our over-the-top, ever increasing real estate taxes...let's spend on education and other projects that benefit everyone...not sports complexes and the like....Vote on JANUARY 22!!

I agree MaryAnn. We need to eliminate pension costs and the ever increasing healthcare costs that are the main causes of high property taxes and instead reward performance and excellence. Its time to cap the boro's exposure on healthcare costs or let employees go on Obamacare since it is so awesome according to those who wanted it.

The current school budget spends over $5.4 million or more than 15% on employee benefits. if healthcare costs alone go up 10%, that's another 500k increase in taxes.

Of course 26% of our high taxes is because of Camden county! Other counties are much less than that share. Wonder why?

Good points, Joe....and how about eliminating some of the 600 school districts in this
State! There are so many ways to cut costs, but those who benefit from the current system will NEVER allow changes to happen. And people like you and I will just keep picking up the tab. I would love to see some serious fiscal overhauls....but I think I have a better chance of being made Pope.....hum...Pope Maryann; I like that. Happy 2013

Now you're talking! Why does every town have a tax collector? Doesn't the internet work for the 4 times a year we pay our bills? The answer is in the politics. Education is BIG BUSINESS. Where else do you have a mandated system that provides guaranteed customers and has no natural competition to force itself to improve? Just like government.......

Haddonfield School Buildings and Athletic Fields are a disgrace to an Upper Middle Class Community.Look at Mt Laurel,Marlton and Cherry Hillas examples .

As a resident of Westmont/Haddon Township, the "main street" referred to as Haddon Avenue is embarrasing. The Westmont theater is in shambles. It is a shame that we have allowed this landmark to wither away to its' current state. Also, the area where condominiums were intended to be built looks horrendous. Our town is a reflection of ourselves and you must admit that our reflection is ugly. Do our leaders and politicians ever intend to do their job and address these issues?

The Westmont Theater should definitely be fixed and preserved. It's about the best and probably only landmark Westmont has. As for the condominiums "to be built" --- I wish they would get a nicer, classier name for them. Just because it's on Albertson Avenue does not mean they have to name it Albertson. Is there some political reason they are going with "Albertson" for the name? Other developments come up with classy names. I wish Westmont would do the same.

I would tear down the Westmont Theater. Have been living within eyesight for 20 years and it's time to move on already. Let's get some creative ideas for the space. The theater has no redeeming qualities.

Replace the welcome sign on Chews Landing Rd. which has been missing for years. The replacement is leaning against the wall in the Borough Hall auditorium. If allowed by the commissioners I will scrape, prime and paint the metal frame which supports the sign at my expense.
