looking for high school students to help local NJ patients

July 27, 2014- The Leukemia & Lymphoma Society is looking for motivated students in high school to coordinate a pre- college program to help local New Jersey patients battling blood cancer.

During this year’s School & Youth Programs nearly 29,000 schools—a quarter of all schools across the country—engaged in meaningful service, leadership, and helped save lives.  Students across NJ connected with The Leukemia & Lymphoma Society’s (LLS) mission through participating in the School & Youth programs.

In 2013, one local student coordinated a 5K and raised well over $5,000 in his first year alone.  Students have the option to coordinate an event of this magnitude or an event on a much smaller scale.  Every program brings us one step closer to a cure.

Some successful fundraising ideas include talent shows, sporting events, shaving heads, taping principals to the wall, and so much more.  Please join us in the fight against cancer by coordinating the fundraising program of your choice at your school.  If you are able to get your school to raise at least $500, we will supply the two top fundraising classrooms with pizza and ice cream parties!

This is a great opportunity for students to build leadership skills, marketing skills, and event planning skills, all while supporting local patients.  Please contact Ariana Dunbar at ariana.dunbar@lls.org or call 908-956-6644 if you would like to try and get a program started at your school.  The NJ School & Youth staff would be more than happy to write college recommendations for hard- working students helping such an endearing cause.
