Audubon Park Mayor Rocks for Oklahoma Tornado Victims

The devastation in Moore, OK, so moved Larry Pennock that he decided to put on a country music show to help the community.

Audubon Park Mayor Larry Pennock will set aside his political duties Friday when he takes the stage to perform in a country music show to help the Moore, OK, community recover.

Pennock, his wife and friends will perform as Eastbound & Down—the mayor is the lead singer. The concert will raise money for the victims of the deadly tornado that ravaged Moore, OK, earlier this year.

After making a slight change to the previously scheduled Country Music Night in Audubon Park, Eastbound & Down takes the stage on Friday at 6 p.m.

The concert itself is free, but 100 percent of the proceeds raised by surrounding vendors, a Chinese auction and a 50/50 raffle will be donated.

After seeing the devastation left behind by the May 20 storm, Pennock decided he needed to act.

"We were watching it all on television and said, 'How many times do you say to yourself that you want to do something?' So we decided right then and there that we were going to.”

After reaching out to a spokesman for country singer Toby Keith, Mayor Pennock was put in touch with a local church leader in Moore, OK, who has been assisting victims of the storm.

"The sad part is that he told me that the cameras were only there for a week," said Pennock. "I said, 'Well we're not going anywhere.'"

The event will be held in the Audubon Park soccer field from 6 to 8:30 p.m. on Friday. All are encouraged to attend.
