From Dream Puffz to Custom Cakes, New Owners Hope Location Leads to Success

Hollingsworth Cookies & Fine Desserts is at 605 N. Haddon Ave. in Haddonfield.

This was once the domain of a 7-foot-1 giant.

Now the bakery shop at 605 N. Haddon Avenue, once occupied by former Duke Basketball star and Haddonfield native Brian Zoubek, is occupied by a family business literally hoping for sweet success.

Hollingsworth's Cookies & Fine Desserts grew out of the family kitchen and now supplies several of the largest caterers in South Jersey.

So says Don Hollingsworth, who also said his wife often makes simple statements and follows through with dynamic results.

"She once told me she wanted to run, and now she's running 26-mile marathons," he said. "She told me she wanted to bake, and now we own a bakery."

Don, 49, and Geri Hollingsworth, 43, opened their storefront bakery in March after outgrowing their kitchen and a church kitchen. The Haddon Township natives hope their "all-natural" desserts will be a recipe for success.

Don, who also owns a computer IT business, said they sealed a deal within a week once they eyed the location, on the corner of Haddon and Wayne avenues, next to the busy Bread Board Plus restaurant.

"Brian Zoubek did a great job designing this place," Don said. "We're buying his equipment, too."

But Zoubek only featured cream puffs while the Hollingsworth's feature more than two-dozen treats, from brownies and pies to tarts. Custom wedding cakes are also a specialty, which they design from scratch at a little table near the front door.

Don said he and his wife are also serving up a "remarkable customer experience."

The shop is open daily from 9 a.m. to 6 p.m. Tuesday through Sunday. For more information visit http://shop.hollingsworthscookies.com/
