Haddonfield's Annual Last Man's Dinner Set for April 1

The event honors military veterans.

Submitted by Tom Baird:

The Haddonfield American Legion Post 38 will hold its 73rd Annual Last Man’s Dinner on April 1 at the Tavistock Country Club. The event will begin at 6 p.m. with a social hour that will include a cash bar. The program will start promptly at 7 p.m..

Each year, the Last Man’s Club of Post 38 conducts this special event to honor our veterans who have served our country and our active duty personnel who are doing so today. The Last Man's Club was organized for the following purposes: to preserve the memories of our wars, to pay fitting tribute to our departed comrades, to foster and perpetuate good fellowship and to eat, drink and be merry.

In the absence of Post 38 Commander D.W. Janszky (who will be serving in Afghanistan after having served in Iraq), Vice Commander Brian Fitzgerald, who returned from two tours in Afghanistan late last year, will emcee the proceedings. The night will feature military honors, a special "POW/MIA White Table Remembrance Service," the annual "Remembrance Service" honoring those members who have passed in the last year and performances by the the Camden County Emerald Society Pipes and Drums.

As a special note, Post 38 Chairman Tom Baird says that Post 38 is very proud of our past commanders; however, with the war drawing down in Afghanistan, it would be particularly fitting for us all to honor our veterans and soldiers of the Gulf Wars and particularly D.W Janszky, Brian Fitzgerald, Steve Pecorelli and our local soldiers and veterans who served during these difficult times in the aftermath of 9/11.

As in the past two years, the length of the program will be controlled. Attendees will receive a copy of the "2013 Last Man's Dinner Program" which will include some of items previously included in the proceedings. Post 38 welcomes local businesses to place ads in that program to help support the dinner, Post 38, our local heroes and their families.

The price is $40 per person which includes a prime-rib dinner and valet parking. For more information on tickets and ads, call Tom Baird, Last Man's Club Chair (Home: 856-428-4070 or Cell: 609-923-1442). For God and Country!
