How Do You Spell Love? With 1,000 Paper Cups

A Haddon Township High School senior spells out his intentions for the prom with a paper-cup display on a fence on Crystal Lake Boulevard.

"It's a tradition in Haddon Township for a young man to ask his potential date to the prom in a very unique way," Bruce Nelson said when he shared a very special story with Haddon Patch this morning.

Turns out his daughter's boyfriend decided to express his affection with 1,000 paper cups spelling out "KELLY PROM? ♥ PAT" on a fence at the high school athletic fields on Crystal Lake Boulevard, across from the Taproom restaurant.

Pat Burns, a senior captain of the boys high-school soccer team, was up until 2 a.m. this morning putting the final touches on his very public display of affection. No word yet if Kelly Nelson, his girlfriend and senior captain of the girls high-school soccer team, said yes.

But in a story in which symbols mean everything, Bruce Nelson picked up on another one.

"I didn't hear her say yes, but she accepted the flowers and gave him a hug," he said. "Is that a yes?"
