Lost Cat Going to Shelter After Unsuccessful Search for Owner

A cat found near Homestead Ave. on Dec. 21 now headed to shelter.

Two Haddonfield college students who found a cat during their winter break said Friday the stray will have to be taken to a shelter because they have to go back to school.

Megumi Tsuda, 21, a junior biology major at Brown University, said she and her friend are "both very upset" they can no longer care for the cat they simply call "Kitty."

"Our families are unable to take in the cat because we both have dogs in the house that do not respond well to other animals in the house," Tsuda said. "We've asked around our family and friends but no one can take in a cat at this point. It's really unfortunate."

Tsuda and her friend, Cara Masullo assumed the small, tabby cat, with a black and white, leopard-print collar, wandered away from a loving home because it seemed well groomed. They found it on Dec. 21, up a tree in Mussullo's backyard on Homestead Avenue near Crystal Lake Avenue on the border with Haddon Township.

They contacted Haddonfield Patch on Jan. 5 and an article was published in an effort to find the owner or someone to adopt the cat. Neither has occurred.

Tsuda said the cat will be taken to the Animal Welfare Association in Voorhees. It is a "no kill" shelter, which doesn't euthanize animals when it reaches capacity.
