The Weather Outside Is Frightful, but the Borough Snow Budget Isn't, Yet

Officials say Haddonfield still within snow clearing budget despite harsh winter.

The borough snow budget is still intact despite one of the harshest winters in years, borough officials said recently.

Four inches of snow overnight Monday added to several feet of snow that has fallen so far this winter. Dave Watson, the borough public works supervisor, said the borough had used 125 of 200 tons of salt on hand on roads so far this winter before Monday's storm. He said his workers have also logged up to 40 hours of overtime on storms this winter before today.

Borough administrator Sharon McCollough said she anticipates a total cost of close to $30,000.

“We’ve had several significant snow storms,” McCollough said. “Right now, we’re within the budget we’ve had planned of between $25,000 to $30,000. But we have the potential of having a more costly snow season in 2011 than we had in 2010.”

McCollough said weekday storms cost less to deal with than weekend storms because more workers are usually scheduled to work then.
