Turf Field Groundbreaking Celebrated, Despite Rancor

Advocates of two new artificial turf fields at the high school celebrate a hard-fought victory.

Hundreds of youth and high school athletes and their parents turned out for the groundbreaking of a new artificial turf field project at Haddonfield Memorial High School.

About $600,000 of the just under $1 million cost for the fields was paid for with private donations. Still, the debate over less than $400,000 in borough and school board funds for the fields became a wedge issue in the Board of Commissioners election last week.

Borden attended the groundbreaking Monday, as did two newly elected commissioners, John Moscatelli and Neal Rochford, and reelected Commissioner Jeff Kasko. Moscatelli opposed the turf project.
