Gain the Competetive Edge - Using Your Mental Skills to Excel in Sports

Gain The Competitive Edge is a training clinic for athletes who
want to be mentally prepared to perform at a higher level and play their
best game
. You will learn a series of mental skills that can keep
you one step ahead of the competition such as asessing your strengths,
asking the right questions, and staying in the moment. These skills will
give you a more positive, productive and proactive mindset by providing
a greater sense of clarity, composure and confidence throughout your
season.

1st Session

Skill # 1: Powerpoints –What are my personal strengths?
Skill # 2: Wanted: Dead of Alive – What do I want to accomplish?
Skill # 3: Circle of Control – What do I control and don’t control?
Skill #4: POP: Play on Purpose – What is the purpose of each drill and exercise?
Skill # 5: Flip the Switch – How can I learn from each mistake?
Skill # 6: Get it Right – What questions will give me focus and direction?
Skill # 7: Master the Moment – How do I stay in the moment?
Skill #8: Avoid the Minefields – What negative attitudes do I need to stay away from?
Skill # 9: Firing on all Cylinders – How do I practice visual imagery of how to play?
Skill #10: Tune In/Tune Out – What do I need to tune into and tune out?
Skill #11: Producing Your Highlights Film – What moments do I replay in my mind?
Skill #12: The Hook – Why do I love playing this game?

With
more than 20 years of experience in the mental health field as a social
worker, case manager, and counselor, Anthony Lanzillo took his
knowledge and applied it to athletics in 2012 when he began developing
mental skills materials for athletes in middle school lacrosse and
football. The purpose: to help athletes make improvements by reaching
their mental peak. Over the past several years, he has developed mental
skills materials and training for many athletic programs such as the
South Jersey United Lacrosse Club and KBD LAX training program.

He
is currently busy working with the sport management program at the
University of Central Florida to develop a pilot project for high school
athletic directors. You can check out some of his writings at the
