Republic Bank Raises Money for Needy Children

A total of $1,500 was raised this holiday season.

A holiday fundraising campaign has yielded $1,500 for the needy.

Cradles to Crayons, a charity for homeless and low-income children, received the money from Republic Bank, which has 13 Delaware Valley locations, including one in Haddonfield.

The funds will help purchase items on the organization’s Immediate Needs list, including outfit packs (a week’s worth of clothing for a child), sneakers, winter coats and a wide variety of baby-specific items.  The money was raised by customers donating $1.00 for every VISA gift card purchased.

"The holidays so often focus on our wants rather than our needs but an organization such as Cradles to Crayons reminds us that there are so many in need, especially in the Philadelphia and South Jersey regions," said Rhonda Costello, an executive of Republic Bank.  "We hope this donation can help make the holiday just a little happier and easier for children in need."

Serving Philadelphia, Boston and their respective surrounding regions, Cradles to Crayons provides children from birth through age 12, living in homeless or low-income situations, with the essential items they need to thrive whether at home, at school or at play. These items range from winter clothing to children’s books to arts and crafts supplies to baby equipment.  Donations are processed and packaged by volunteers, and are distributed to disadvantaged children through a collaborative network of social service agencies and school partners.

"We are grateful to Republic Bank for helping to fulfill many of these needs but also, for raising awareness of our needs with customers through this holiday initiative,” said Michal Smith, Executive Director for Cradles to Crayons.  “Our ‘Immediate Needs’ list continues to grow and truly, every bit of support helps."
