Edward J. Poynton Jr., Haddonfield Civic Leader, Dies at 84

Services will be Friday.

Edward J. Poynton, Jr., 84, a civic leader and 58-year resident of Haddonfield, died Monday.

Mr. Poynton graduated from Rutgers University and proudly served in the Army during the Korean War. He was a partner in the Insurance firm of Anderson, Jackson, Metts in Haddonfield. He was a member of the Haddonfield Y’s Men, the 65 Club, a past president of the Wedgewood Swim Club, the Camden/Gloucester Co. Insurance Agent Association, and served on the advisory board of the Mabel Kay House.  Additionally, he was a volunteer for Interfaith Caregivers. 

He was the husband of Jane  (nee Sherman); father of Janet Garman (Gary) of Crownsville, MD and Nancy Giordano (Tom) of Cherry Hill; grandfather of Christopher Garman, Michelle Fraser (Sean), Nicholas Garman (Samantha), TJ Garman, Laura, Tina and Tommy Giordano; great grandfather of Reagan Fraser and brother of Carol Verven (Nicholas) of MA and Joan Fleming (William) of NY.

The family will receive friends on Friday from 10:30 to 11:45 a.m., in the sanctuary of the First Presbyterian Church, 20 Kings Highway East, Haddonfield, NJ 08033; where his service will follow at noon.  Interment, private.

In lieu of flowers the family suggests donations be made in his name to Haddonfield Presbyterian, where he had been a member for over 50 years or to Lighthouse Hospice, 1040 N. Kings Higway, Suite 100, Cherry Hill, NJ 08034.
