Obituary: Donna Lee Conway

She was known as the "Dog Lady" throughout Haddonfield.

Donna Lee Conway, 56, of Haddonfield, peacefully passed away Monday in Philadelphia.

She was the loving mother of Jimmy Conway of Philadelphia, Lauren Conway (Keith) of Atlanta, Alex Conway (Aileen) of Honolulu,  and Suzanne Jimenez (Mauricio) of Long Beach, Cal.  She was also the beloved daughter of William and Ellen Rettinger and dear sister of Linda Motta (Bill), Diane Kazan, Carol Stuffer and Sandra Lockhart (Phil).  She is also survived by her loving companion, Randy Horneff and his children Sarah, Katie and Kevin, as well as thirteen nieces and nephews.

Even though Donna graduated from Haddon Heights High School, she was a proud, lifelong resident of Haddonfield. After raising four children she returned to school and graduated from Helene Fuld School of Nursing. She has worked as a nurse at Our Lady of Lourdes Hospital, Jefferson University Hospital, Kennedy Memorial, and Methodist Hospital. Her passion for trauma and ER nursing was realized while at Jefferson, where she thrived and excelled. Never one to sit still, the nonstop action in the ER kept her on her toes; she adored the interaction with her patients too, who would inevitably comment on her strikingly beautiful blue-green eyes.

Donna will be fondly remembered as the Dog Lady who walked her beloved black lab Shadow on five-mile treks through Hopkins Pond everyday like clockwork. Known for her neatness and love of routine, she created a wonderful environment as a stay-at-home mom to her four children. Donna enjoyed traveling, especially to beaches, where she was well known for her glowing tan skin. She also enjoyed a deep love of reading and inspired others around her to share that passion. Donna had many collectibles and had an amazing eye for décor, transforming a house into a home. She was an incredibly nurturing person not only to her family, friends, and patients but also her impressive plant collection.

Donna’s family will receive friends on Saturday, Dec. 1, from 10 to 10:45 a.m. at Kain-Murphy Funeral Services, 15 West End Avenue, Haddonfield, where a service will begin at 11:00 a.m.  Interment will be private.
