Obituary: Russell E. Snyder

Services will be held on Friday.

Russell E. SNYDER, 89, of Haddonfield, died on Monday.

He was the beloved husband of Judith F. Ellis Snyder. Loving father of four sons, Kenneth (Susan Rettig) of Wynnewood, PA; Thomas (Lisa Flowers) of Haddonfield, NJ; David (Patricia) of Haddon Heights, NJ and Peter B. (Dawn) of York, PA, pre-deceased by his first wife, Ruth Snyder (nee Kelly).

He was a loving grandfather and is survived by eight grandchildren: Andrew, Laura, Jason, Elizabeth, Justina, Luke, Chris, Kathryn; his stepchildren, Paul (Laura), Phillip, & Nancy Ellis, two step-grandchildren and his beloved cat, Oscar.

Mr. Snyder was raised in Camden and was a 1941 graduate of Woodrow Wilson High.  Following WWII, he studied building construction and appraisal at Temple Tech. After marriage, he moved to Haddonfield where he has lived for 52 years.  He was a long-time real estate appraiser for Jackson-Cross, Philadelphia, PA and a designated Member of the Appraisal Institute (MAI).  Earlier in his career, he was a machinery and equipment appraiser for Federal Appraisal, Phila and a coppersmith for New York Shipbuilding in Camden, NJ. He also taught classes in real estate appraisal and building construction at Temple U and Manor College.

A WWII navy veteran, Mr. Snyder served in the Atlantic and Pacific theaters on the USS DuFilho.

 He was active with Haddonfield Little League and First Presbyterian Church and was a lifelong bowler until age 89. He enjoyed spending time with his family, both at home and in Ocean City, NJ.  A kind-hearted, good natured man, he will be greatly missed.   

The family will receive friends, Friday, from 1 to 2:15 p.m., with funeral service following at 2:30 p.m. at Kain-Murphy Funeral Services, 15 West End Ave., Haddonfield.

In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made in his name to Interfaith Caregivers, P.O. Box 186, Haddonfield, NJ 08033.
