Robert Herbert, Former BOE Member, Longtime Haddonfield Resident, Dies at 84

The family will receive friends on Thursday and hold a funeral service Friday.

Robert A. Herbert, 84, a 50-year Haddonfield resident and former school board member, died on Saturday.

Mr. Herbert proudly served in the Army during the Korean War. He was a graduate of Westminster University and received his masters degree from the Wharton School at the University of Pennsylvania. 

For many years, he had been a real estate property manager; retiring from Rubin and Associates in Philadelphia. Mr. Herbert was a member of the American Legion, Post 38, the Haddonfield 65 Club and the Haddonfield Mason Lodge for 25 years. He also conscientiously served on the Haddonfield Board of Education and was instrumental in the approval and construction of the C building at the high school.

He was the husband for 58 years to Dorothy (nee Mayer); father of Robert A., Jr. (Cathy) of New Hope, PA  and Ronald P. (Robin) of Richmond, VA; grandfather of 7: Ashton, Kelsey, Patrick, Ann Carter, Caitlin, Christopher and Matthew; and brother of Paul of Carmel, IN and Reta Thorne of W. Newton, PA.

The family will receive friends on Thursday from 6 to 8 p.m. at Kain-Murphy Funeral Services, 15 West End Ave., Haddonfield, NJ; where a Masonic Service will follow.

All are invited to his funeral service, Friday, 11 a.m. at the First Presbyterian Church, 20 Kings Highway East, Haddonfield, NJ 08033.

Burial will be at the Haddonfield Baptist Cemetary. Memorial donations may be made in his name to the church at the above address; where Mr. Herbert had been a member for over 50 years.
