Robert Speck, WWII Wounded Vet, Former Campbell Soup Exec., Dies at 90

He was also an avid botanist and beekeeper.

Robert V. Speck, 90, who lived in Haddonfield for 60 years, died on Friday.

He was the father of Deirdre C. Speck of Rehoboth Beach, DE and Michal Anne Speck of Norwalk, CT.  Also survived by his brother Rhoads M. Speck, 8 nieces and nephews and his sister-in-law, Elizabeth Dewees of Ocean City, NJ.  He was predeceased by Jane(nee Dewees) Speck .  

Speck proudly served in the US Army during WWII.  He was injured in the European Theatre and received the Purple Heart.  He received his B.S., M.S. and Sc.D. from the Phila. College of Pharmacy & Science.  His career at Campbell Soup spanned 35 years when he retired in 1987 as Mgr. of Container Research. He was an avid beekeeper and botanist who loved his two Rhodesian Ridgebacks. He was a member of the Covenant Presbyterian Church in Cherry Hill, NJ. 

His family will receive friends on Tuesday 1-1:45 PM, at Kain-Murphy Funeral Services, 15 West End Ave., Haddonfield, NJ; where his Service will follow at 2 PM.  Interment, Haddonfield Baptist Cem.  In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in Dr. Speck’s name to the Seeing Eye, Inc., 10 Washington Valley, Morristown, NJ 07963.
