Ruth Canton, Former Haddonfield Resident, Dies at 90

Services will be next Saturday.

Ruth Canton(nee Dumbleton) died on Wednesday at the age of 90.

She was the daughter of Dr. Frank and Lydia Dumbleton and grew up in Haddonfield, where she was active in dramatic arts and public speaking. After graduating from what now is the College of New Jersey, where she met her husband Paul A. Canton, she returned to Haddonfield to teach English and direct the drama club and senior plays.

Ruth and her husband moved to Moorestown where they raised their five children.  During her younger years she was a member of the Curtis Auxiliary, the Moorestown Methodist United Methodist Church, PTA as well as Contact of Burlington County and was an enthusiastic Bridge player.

Ruth is survived by her husband of 68 years, Paul; her children, Paul Jr., Bruce, Lee, Lynn and John; nine grandchildren and five great grandchildren.

A memorial service will be held 11 a.m. Saturday, Nov. 2, at the First Presbyterian Church, 101 Bridgeboro Road, Moorestown.

Burial will be private. In lieu of flowers , the family request contributions to a charity of donor’s choice  in Ruth’s name.
