Haddonfield Boys Cross Country Wins at Briarwood Invitational

The Haddonfield Boys Cross Country team ran to an impressive first place victory on Saturday, September 21st at the Briarwood Invitational, held at the challenging 5k course at Belmont Plateau in Fairmount Park.  By placing their top 5 runners in the first 16 finishers, Haddonfield’s 45 total team points positioned them comfortably ahead of second place West Deptford (90 points), and third place Lawrenceville Prep (106 points) in the Division II small school race.

 

Senior co-captain Alex Gigliotti finished third overall in a time of 17:07, followed closely by senior Matt Stewart, sophomores Greg Pelose and Austin Stoner, and senior co-captain John Greenberg.  Haddonfield’s top 5 scorers ran closely as a pack for most of the race, with only 34 seconds separating their finishing times.  Junior co-captain Danny Brennan was sixth for the Bulldogs in 43rd place, and seventh man was junior Chris Goings, finishing in 46th place overall.

Haddonfield’s next big race will be on October 5th, when they compete in the Shore Coaches Invitational in Holmdel, NJ.  This meet is one of the highlights of the fall cross country schedule, with the Bulldogs racing against the top high school teams from New Jersey, New York, and Pennsylvania.
