1 Dead After 6-Car Pileup on I-295 Near Tavistock/Haddonfield Border

The violent accident on I-295 in Camden County early Saturday morning shut down the highway for four hours.

Police say the driver of a Corvette in a southbound lane of I-295 barreled through a guardrail and into oncoming northbound traffic early Saturday morning, killing himself and causing a six-car pileup.

The accident happened shortly after 1:45 a.m. Saturday near exit 31, Woodcrest, according to broadcast reports. An eyewitness, a driver of one of the cars involved in the wreck, told NBC 10 Philadelphia he saw a dead body on the roadway after the accident.

Police said Edward Yost, 33, lost control of his Corvette while driving south on the highway, flipped after slamming into the median barrier and slid, upside-down, into oncoming traffic on the northbound side in between the Woodcrest and Haddonfield-Berlin Road exits.

An Acura TL then crashed into the Corvette, police said, killing Yost and injuring two in the Acura.

Those two—Daries Newton, 26, of Pemberton, and Tyler Morris, 21, of Mount Laurel—were taken to Cooper University Hospital, police said, and were treated for minor injuries.
