A Dirty Dozen of Haddonfield Street Signs Swiped in Two Days

In the latest in a series of brazen crimes, thieves destroy signs.

reported 12 street signs stolen over two days last week.

The signs were reported missing from Colonial Ridge Drive and Upland Way, Hickory Lane and Warwick Road, Jefferson Avenue and Warwick Road, and Montwell Avenue and Warwick Road on Thursday. Four more signs were reported missing the next day, at Warwick Road and Glenwood, and West Park and Washington avenues.

Four of the signs were recovered nearby, but all were ruined, police said.

No suspects or arrests were announced.

Last August, 11 street signs were reported stolen in a similar incident. Haddonfield has been a frequent target of metal thieves over the last two years. Several dozen thefts of copper downspouts have been reported over that time.

Police have not reported any motive for the sign thefts, but the borough commissioners are concerned.

"We should put this in the paper," Mayor Tish Colombi, one of three borough commissioners said in June. "It's costly to replace these signs. People need to know what's happening."
