Gas Station Attendants Stole Credit Card Numbers, Prosecutor Says

At least 50 people were victims of the thefts at a station on the White Horse Pike in Stratford.

Two Camden County men who worked with a partner from Philadelphia have been arrested on charges they stole credit card numbers while working at a White Horse Pike gas station this summer, Camden County Prosecutor Warren W. Faulk announced.

Edgard Venegas, 24, of Clementon, and Louis Gonzalez, 33, of Lindenwold, who both worked at the Exxon on the White Horse Pike in Stratford, worked with Philadelphia resident Mark Chamberlain, 29, to skim card numbers via an electronic reader Chamberlain provided the other two men, Faulk said.

Venegas and Gonzalez lifted at least 50 credit card numbers—along with expiration dates and CVV codes—from customers over the summer, Faulk said, then let Chamberlain download and use the stolen numbers every few days.

More people may have been victims, Faulk said, as the thefts appear to have started in July, and the investigation, which includes determining how much Chamberlain charged to the stolen card numbers, remains open.

Chamberlain may be connected to similar thefts in Bensalem, PA, Faulk said, where police tipped off Camden County authorities to the potential for his involvement in the local skimming.

Venegas and Gonzalez were both charged with fraudulent use of a credit card, credit card theft and criminal use of a scanning device. They were both released on summonses.

Chamberlain was charged with conspiracy to commit theft, credit card theft and criminal use of a scanning device, and is in the Camden County Jail in lieu of $50,000 bail.

Anyone in Camden County who may also have been victimized by these men is asked to contact Camden County Prosecutor’s Office Detective Vincent McCalla 856-225-8569 or Stratford Police Detective Mike Williams at 856-783-8621.
