Gloucester Catholic Janitor Resigns Over Student Cell Phone Pics

A custodian at Gloucester Catholic Junior/Senior High School resigned last week after he was confronted with possessing and circulating cell phone pictures of students, the school principal announced.

The Camden County Prosecutor’s Office is investigating whether the unnamed custodian broke any laws for having the pictures on his school-issued cell phone, principal John Colman wrote in a Nov. 27 letter to parents.

Colman, who heads the Gloucester City Catholic school, wrote that he learned of the accusation on Nov. 21 from the prosecutor’s office. The school cooperated with authorities to confiscate the cell phone, he wrote.

“The employee involved resigned his position that day,” Colman’s letter reads. (Click on the PDF, right, to view the full letter.)

“It is my understanding that the prosecutor is reviewing the photographs and other evidence to determine whether there has been any criminal activity, and if so, the extent of it,” the letter goes on. “… We at the school will notify the parents of any students whose photograph is identified so that they can be alerted to the situation and so that the students can be provided whatever counseling or other assistance might be necessary.”

Gloucester Catholic enrolls about 640 students in high school and 69 students in the junior high program, according to the school. The co-ed school opened in 1928.
