Gloucester City Man Held Up Teller at Gunpoint: Prosecutor

Authorities arrested the accused, George Becker, hours after he allegedly held up a PNC bank teller.

Authorities arrested a Gloucester City man Thursday just hours after he allegedly held up a PNC bank teller at gunpoint.

According to the Camden County Prosecutor’s Office, 31-year-old George L. Becker entered the PNC Bank on Monmouth Street in Gloucester City just after 9 a.m. and stuck a gun in the teller’s face, demanding money. He was clad in a dark hooded sweatshirt, gray sweatpants, a black winter hat, gloves and a dark bandana, which covered most of his face. He fled the bank on foot after taking money from the teller, authorities said.

Around noon the same day, Gloucester City Police and investigators from the Camden County Prosecutor’s Office Major Crimes Unit spotted Becker and took him into custody after a brief vehicle pursuit.

A search warrant was executed at Becker’s residence, where authorities allegedly discovered the clothing and weapon used in the robbery, according to the prosecutor’s office.

Becker was charged with robbery, eluding police and weapons offenses.
