Alleged Prostitution Leads to Haddon Twp. Massage Parlor Bust

Several people were detained Friday afternoon after a police raid at the Sunrise Massage parlor. A neighbor says suspicious activity had long gone on at the business.

A Haddon Township massage parlor reportedly offered extra services to clientele, leading to a police bust and prostitution charges for one woman Friday.

Haddon Township Police raided Sunrise Massage Friday afternoon after a two-month investigation into alleged prostitution activities there.

At least two women were led away in handcuffs from Sunrise Massage at 121 Haddon Ave., eyewitnesses said. Police charged Xiaonyu Li, aka Lisa Li, 28, with two counts of engaging in prostitution. She was held on $10,000 bail at the Camden County Correctional Facility.

There was no immediate information available on the other woman taken away in handcuffs.

The bust came as no surprise to a neighbor, who had often complained to police about suspected activities at the massage parlor. She described a steady stream of clientele going into the front of the business and exiting out the back later. The storefront's windows were often covered in violation of business regulations, the neighbor said, but sometimes the back door was open. There were many people sleeping in the back room, she said.

"They'd be open until 1 a.m., open on Christmas, open on Thanksgiving," the neighbor, who declined to give her name, said. "You'd see cabs pulling up from Philadelphia all of the time. It was obvious what was going on."

Police assured her they were building a case against the business, leading up to Friday's bust.

After police left, the business was locked and the window curtains drawn. Officials cited fire and construction code violations, and closed the building. An "unsafe structure placard" posted on the door reads: "This building is declared unsafe for human occupancy. No individual is to occupy this building until the structure is rendered safe and secure."

The Sunrise Massage website features pictures of several Asian women in negligees and one partially undressed. Another photo is of a woman with her mouth on a rose. Prices ranged from $50 to $90 for 30- to 90-minute sessions.
