Haddonfield Firefighters Get $38K Federal Grant

Haddon Fire Co. No.1 is one of seven departments in the state to receive federal money.

Haddonfield firefighters will benefit from $890,000 in federal fire departments grants announced Thursday by New Jersey's two senators.

Haddon Fire Co. No. 1 will receive a $38,803 grant it can use for training, protective equipment, fitness programs, modifications to facilities, and supplies that support firefighting operations and safety.

"The highly competitive SAFER grant program provides funding directly to fire departments and volunteer firefighter organizations in order to help them increase the number of trained 'front line' firefighters in their communities," a statement from senators Frank Lautenberg and Robert Menendez said. SAFER is an acronym for Staffing for Adequate Fire and Emergency Response.
