The crimes as they are reported

Haddonfield police reported five burglaries and two arrests in the period between Feb. 16 to 25.

Mark Tonelli, 48, of 109 Fomalhaut Ave. in the Sewell section of Washington Township, was arrested and charged this week with the theft of nearly $4,500 in jewelry from a residence in the unit block of Wedgewood Lane in November. Tonelli was linked to the stolen goods from a pawn shop receipt that included his driver’s license and photo ID. 

Tonelli was listed in police reports as the owner of  Magic Window Cleaning Co.  The charges allege he stole jewelry from the Wedgewood Lane home on Nov. 25 while working there. The resident reported a gold bracelet, a diamond tennis bracelet and a diamond, heart-shaped pendant on a gold chain missing after Tonelli and two assistants cleaned the windows at her home.

Tonelli was arrested Thursday at his home in Washington Township. Borough police said the arrest was the result of a joint investigation between Haddonfield, Harrison and Medford. He was charged with similar burglaries in all three towns.

Tonelli was remanded to Haddonfield municipal court, where a $7,500 full, cash bail was set. It was not immediately reported if he posted bail and was released.

Michael P. Sweeney, 29, of Lycoming Avenue, Wenonah, was arrested and charged with burglary and theft on Feb. 19, shortly after midnight, after breaking into a car in the 100 block of North Drive. Sweeney confessed after being caught, the police report said. A Lycoming Avenue resident reported seeing him enter his unlocked 2003, black Nissan parked in his driveway shortly before 9:56 p.m. on Feb. 18.  Sweeney fled on foot and was caught by Haddon Township police based on a description. He admitted entering the car and taking $3 in change and was taken to Camden County jail, the report said.

Another car was broken into overnight on Feb. 18 in the 400 block of Loucroft Road. A resident reported their unlocked 2008, black Mercedes 550 was broken into. Nothing was taken but the driver’s seat was “sliced” in both sections with an “unknown instrument.” The incident was reported at 8:50 a.m. on Feb. 21.

In the 100 block of Westmont Avenue, a resident reported their home had been broken into on Feb. 19 and a “security box” on the second floor was pried open. The box contained ID documents such as birth certificates and passports. Everything was accounted for, the complainant said and they would advise police if anything else was missing. The incident was reported at 11:27 p.m. on Feb. 22.

An “unknown” amount of jewelry and money was reported stolen from the second-floor, master bedroom of a home in the 300 block of Spruce Street on Feb. 22. A resident reported their home was entered between 3 and 3:30 p.m. that day.  The incident was reported at 6:57 p.m.

Bicycle tracks and footprints in the snow led police to an abandoned home in the 100 block of S. Atlantic Avenue East on Feb. 24 for a reported burglary. A caller told police about the tracks in the snow near his girlfriends home nearby. A police check discovered the property had been entered. Nothing was immediately reported missing.
