Police Urge Prevention

With the arrival of summer and the vacation season, the Haddonfield Police Department is urging citizens to be cautious. Warmer weather can bring with it crimes of opportunity—unlocked doors, open windows, unattended vehicles—and with them, added dangers, police said.

As a general safety precaution, be mindful of securing your home if you are planning an extended trip:

  • Lock your doors and windows and make sure a neighbor knows if you’re going to be out of town.
  • It’s a good idea to stop delivery of newspapers and have someone collect your mail or stop by to check on the property in your absence.

Even if you're not going anywhere far, it's also important to make sure that you secure your vehicle as well as you do your home.

  • Do not leave objects unattended in your vehicle. Cars are broken into for items like GPS navigation systems, cell phones, wallets, and even loose change.
  • By checking to make sure your vehicle is garaged or locked with the windows up and an active alarm, you can prevent many of the headaches that come with warm-weather burglaries.
