Haddonfield Police: The Blotter

Haddonfield Police are still investigating a pair of apparently unrelated burglaries from last week.

A pair of burglaries last week left one victim without her bank debit cards and a professional office searching for clues as to who might have damaged its facility.

At 7:59 p.m. Aug. 14, a couple returned from Crows Woods to discover the front side passenger window of their silver 2001 Mazda Protégé had been smashed in. The burglar made off with a black leather Kathy Van Zealand purse, which contained a wallet, keys, and identification cards.

At 6:56 p.m., the burglar attempted to use the victim’s bank cards to purchase five packs of cigarettes valued at a total of $38 at a Cherry Hill 7-11 (721 Kings Highway North). Police are still investigating video surveillance from the convenience store. The footage shows a white male, approximately 25, with short hair and a pencil-thin beard, entering a blue Mercury Grand Marquis, and then heading in the direction of Chapel Avenue.

One day earlier, police responded to an early-morning alarm at the offices of in the 800 block of Haddon Avenue.

At 7:30 a.m. Aug. 13, employees opened their office to the sound of an alarm. The door next to the alarm panel was ajar and the door frame had been splintered. The alarm panel was detached from its wiring and was found on the floor. All other offices of the multi-tenant building were secure.

The office has multiple alarm detection zones. Police had responded to a report from the alarm company that the system had been activated that morning at 4:17 a.m., but when dispatched to the property, determined that it had seemed secure.

An unsecured door at the southeast exit of the building was determined to be the likely source of entry. Its locking mechanism is damaged and prevents the strike plate from engaging. As there is no outside handle to the door, police believe it was opened by prying.

Nothing was believed to have been stolen from the office.
