An Internet celebrity who allegedly killed a man in Union County this week, then passed through Haddonfield during his escape from the law, was captured in Philadelphia Thursday evening.

Caleb Lawrence McGillvary, 24, better known as Internet sensation "Kai the Hatchet-Wielding Hitchhiker" on YouTube and Facebook, was wanted in the death of Joseph Galfy Jr., 73, in Clark, NJ. He was arrested by Philadelphia Police at the city's Greyhound bus terminal around 6:30 p.m.

McGillvary is charged with the May 12 homicide of Galfy, and will be processed in Philadelphia and returned to New Jersey in the coming days, authorities said.

His bail was previously set at $3 million and he will be lodged in the Union County Jail in Elizabeth, said Union County Prosecutor Theodore J. Romankow, whose office had pursed McGillvary.

McGillvary's whereabouts were unknown for several days, but investigators knew he had passed through Haddonfield, and took a train from the local PATCO station.

"Investigators there (in Union County) received information that he had caught a train in Haddonfield some time Tuesday, but that there is no evidence that he is still in this area, and in fact has likely left the state of New Jersey," Jason Laughlin of the Camden County Prosecutor's Office said earlier. "He is not being sought in this area."

McGillvary is homeless but considers himself “homefree,” Romankow said. McGillvary is also known as Kai Lawrence, Caleb Kai Lawrence and Kai Nicodemus.

At a Thursday afternoon press conference, Romankow revealed new details about the alleged murder, explaining that Galfy picked up McGillvary in Times Square on Saturday, May 11, and that McGillvary stayed overnight at Galfy's Clark home before leaving for Asbury Park on Sunday.

Romankow said McGillvary returned to Galfy's home later on Sunday and allegedly committed the murder. McGillvary then left and traveled to Asbury Park, Philadelphia and Glassboro, where he met up with two of his fans, who are providing information to police.

McGillvary was last seen in Haddonfield, where he boarded a PATCO train to Philadelphia. Authorities said McGillvary had cut his hair in an attempt to alter his appearance, and he was considered to be armed and dangerous.

In a Tuesday post on his Facebook page, McGillvary alleges that he was drugged and raped and asks followers, "what would you do?"

The Union County Homicide Task Force worked with local, state and federal officials to locate McGillvary. He is charged with murder in Union County and bail has been set at $3 million by Superior Court Judge Stuart Peim.
