Man Harassed Preteen Behind Haddon Twp. High School, Police Say

Nicholas Murphy, 19, was arrested at his Camden home for the alleged incident. Murphy is a former student at Haddon Township High School.

Haddon Township Police arrested a Camden man they said harassed an 11-year-old girl behind a school last week.

Police arrested Nicholas Murphy, 19, at his home on the 500 block of State Street, Camden, on Thursday.

Murphy is accused of approaching a girl behind Haddon Township High School’s stadium on March 22 at 3 p.m. The girl told police Murphy was riding a mountain bike on the access road and tried to talk with her. After she ignored him, Murphy allegedly began to verbally harass her with profanities and followed her on the bike.

The girl ran toward the high school and reported what happened to a teacher in the parking lot.

Police used surveillance video from the area to track down Murphy, who is a former student at Haddon Township High School. Police charged him with several unspecified offenses, according to a post on the department’s Facebook page.

“The Haddon Township Police Department would like to remind parents to instruct their children to avoid walking through wooded areas, especially when alone, and to walk in areas where they are clearly visible to the public,” the post also read.
