Gunpoint Robbery at Collingswood Aldi, Witness Says

The storei was reportedly robbed on Friday afternoon.

A cashier at Collingswood’s Aldi store was reportedly held up at gunpoint Friday afternoon.

A man on the scene several minutes after the 2 p.m. robbery reported the information to Collingswood Patch. Collingswood Police did not immediately return a phone call seeking information.

The Collingswood man, who asked to remain anonymous, was at the store before police arrived and reported the cashier as “obviously very shaken, but unhurt.”

As police from and Camden descended on the store, customers continued to shop. Several detectives and what appeared to be crime scene investigators joined the officers at the scene and collected surveillance camera footage, the witness said.

According to the witness, Aldi often has a uniformed, but unarmed, security guard stationed at the store’s exit. The guard was reportedly on scene, but not yet on duty, at the time of the robbery.

The White House Pike Aldi store sits on the border of Collingswood and Camden, with the Ferry Avenue speedline just a block away.

Meanwhile, Breaking News Network, a service that reports police news, published a report of a gunpoint robbery at 2:30 p.m. at the intersection of Collings and Mt. Ephraim avenues in Haddon Township. That site is just one mile from the Aldi store.

In the incident, the male robber displayed a silver handgun and drove off in a green Jeep toward Fairview Street.

There are no other details available and it’s unclear if the two incidents are related.
