Police Drop the Net on Suspected Serial Bank Robber

An accused serial bank robber who police say hit four local banks——was arrested Friday.

Aquamena Hawthorne, 36, of Willingboro, was arrested in Camden after authorities tracked her down with license plate reader technology.

Hawthorne is suspected in four local bank robberies running from June 26 through this morning. Her alleged hits include:

June 26: Beneficial Bank, Beverly-Rancocas Road, Willingboro at 9 a.m.

June 26: Susquehanna Bank, White Horse Pike, Audubon at 9:45 a.m.

July 10:

July 13: Wells Fargo Bank, Kings Highway, Cherry Hill at 10 a.m.

In each case, Hawthorne allegedly demanded money from the bank tellers and told them she had a gun, though she never showed one.

Authorities identified her license plate after the Audubon and Willingboro robberies, and that license plate was recorded by Camden City Police nearly 40 times in North Camden, officials said.

After the Cherry Hill robbery on Friday, Camden County Prosecutor’s Office investigators drove to North Camden and found Hawthorne. Officials said that at least some of the money she’s suspected of stealing is likely in her car; a search warrant is pending.

So far, Hawthorne is charged only with the Audubon and Cherry Hill bank robberies, but charges are pending in the other two cases and she’s the main suspect, according to a release from Camden County Prosecutor Warren W. Faulk, Cherry Hill Police Chief Richard Del Campo, Audubon Police Chief Thomas Tassi, Cinnaminson Public Safety Director Michael King and Willingboro Public Safety Director Police Chief Gregory Rucker.

Hawthorne’s charges include two counts of second-degree robbery, theft and conspiracy. She’s being held on $207,500 bail at the Camden County Jail.
