Police Honor Orthodontist Who Helped Catch Bank Robber

A visit to the bank turns a doctor into a hero.

Haddonfield orthodontist Dr. Ron Clark was honored by the borough police department Tuesday for doing something Police Chief John Banning said he’d never recommend to a civilian.

After being forced at gunpoint to the floor of during a July 28, 2010 robbery, Clark followed the robber on foot and was able to identify him as the getaway driver to police.

Because of Clark’s help, Banning said at Tuesday's regular meeting of borough commissioners, the department was able to make arrests on the bank robbery and two burglaries.

“I never thought I was putting myself in danger,” Clark said. “You guys are always there protecting us. I didn’t want to be there. I should have called 911 a block sooner, but I though you’d show up sooner."

Banning said the bank robbery was the third in the borough in about five years.
