Police Sergeant Shot at Station Returns Home

Sgt. James Garber, who was shot at the police station early Friday morning along with two other officers, returned home from the hospital Sunday afternoon.

Gloucester Township police Sgt. James Garber returned home to a hero's welcome Sunday afternoon.

Garber, along with Sgt. Kevin Thyne and Ptl. Jones fired multiple times at the officers before being fatally shot by Garber and Thyne.

Garber, a 13-year veteran, was the most seriously injured of the three officers, sustaining a gunshot wound to his stomach that required surgery. He was released Sunday afternoon from Cooper University Hospital in Camden, and returned to his township home.

Thyne was shot in his duty belt, causing a laceration to his stomach, and sustained a graze wound to his chin in the incidentBurns was shot in her foot. Both officers were released from the hospital Friday.

On Sunday, Garber was greeted at his home by fellow officers, Boy Scout Troop 811, members of the Warriors' Watch organization and local fire and EMS personnel.

Nice video and support from the township residents, the Police and Fire Departments, and of course the Warrior's Watch. We can only hope that many lessons were learned here, and all officers will return to full health.
