Suspect Dies in Haddon Twp. Police Custody

Shron Norman was under arrest for a disturbance at Crown Fried Chicken. He died a short time later.

A Paulsboro man arrested by Haddon Township Police Saturday died in custody after passing out in a squad car, the county prosecutor’s office announced.

Shron Norman, 37, was pronounced dead at Our Lady of Lourdes Medical Center in Camden. He became unconscious in the back of the police car and officers’ attempts to revive him with CPR did not work.

Police arrested Norman at 1:30 a.m. Sept. 29 at the Crown Fried Chicken on Mount Ephraim Avenue. Employees called 911 to report Norman allegedly threatening customers and damaging store property.

“Police struggled with Norman while taking him into custody and one officer sustained superficial injuries,” according to a release from the Camden County Prosecutor’s Office. “The Camden County Prosecutor’s Office will be conducting interviews to get a detailed account of the interaction between police and Norman.”

An autopsy performed Sunday did not show trauma to Norman’s body, the county prosecutor’s office said. A cause of death will not be determined until toxicology tests results come back. The investigation into the death is ongoing.
