Vandals Snatch 11 Haddonfield Street Signs

The brazen thefts mirror earlier thefts of downspouts for scrap metal.

Haddonfield has been hit once again by brazen thieves stealing metal, which police have said is often sold for scrap.

Over the past week, 11 borough street signs were swiped, some with poles still attached.

It was not immediately reported how long it takes to saw off a street sign at the post. Police reports did not indicate any of the thefts were reported by residents on these streets. Dave Watson, the supervisor of public works, reported the thefts.

Each sign is valued at $30. Signs in which the poles were still attached cost more. Watson believes the perpetrators are bending the signs off holders or sawing them halfway through and then bending them off.

  • Mountwell Avenue and Chews Landing Road
  • Moore Lane and Warwick Road
  • Summit and Washington Avenues
  • Estaugh and Euclid Avenues
  • Estaugh and Redman Avenues
  • Peyton and Redman Avenues
  • West End and Redman Avenues
  • Lansdowne and Redman Avenues
  • Mount Vernon and Avondale Avenues
  • Mount Vernon and Linden Avenues

Thieves have also stolen rain downspouts from about a half dozen Haddonfield homes over the last eight months and from the First Baptist Church during the Christmas season.
