11-Year-Old Gets Key to Haddon Township and More

Haddon Township’s commissioners met Jan. 22 for a much quieter meeting than their work session. The trio zipped through business in 20 minutes flat, but did squeeze in some items of note.

Here’s what you should know:

1. The commissioners handed over a key to Haddon Township to an tween. The governing body issued a proclamation to Madison Bradley, 11, for . Madison won the 10- and 11-year-old division, besting her competitors by 20 feet. Madison got a ceremonial key to the township along with the proclamation. Her family joined her at the commissioners meeting for the quick ceremony.

2. Haddon Township entered into several shared services agreements for 2013. They include: shared services for public works and water maintenance with Collingswood, shared services for public works and water main repair with Oaklyn and shared services with the Haddon Township Housing Authority for public works to build an office addition at Rohrer Towers.

In all three cases, Haddon Township crews will perform the work and the township will get paid for it.

3. The commissioners appointed Martin G. Blaskey III as Haddon Township’s authorized agent in all tax appeals before the Camden County Board of Taxation. Blaskey is the township’s tax assessor.

4. The commissioners appointed themselves to represent Haddon Township on the Camden County Community Development Advisory Board. Randy Teague, as mayor, is an automatic voting member. Commissioner John Foley will be the representative and Commissioner Paul Dougherty the alternate representative.

5. A Haddon Township man is going Hollywood—sort of. Resident and school board member John Kendall will , at Rutgers-Camden soon. “Everyone is invited,” Kendall said. The screening is Feb. 8 at 7 p.m. in Rutgers-Camden’s Campus Center Multi-Purpose Room. The screening and refreshments are free. Register through the university.

The next Haddon Township commissioners meeting is a caucus on Feb. 19 at 7 p.m.
