Borough Commissioners, Town Watch Meetings Thursday at the Same Time

Both meetings will be at the Haddonfield Municipal Hall. They will focus on a new municipal energy-aggregation program and the local town watch crime-prevention effort.

The borough commissioners will hold a special meeting 7 p.m. Thursday at the Municipal Hall, 242 Kings Highway East, to discuss an energy aggregation program that could save residents money on their individual energy bills.

Meanwhile, a meeting on a Haddonfield Civic Association effort to promote a new town-watch program will also be held at the Municipal Hall at 7 p.m. The conflict occurred because the commissioners rescheduled their energy aggregation program meeting last month. It was rescheduled to avoid a conflict with a school board candidates debate the same day.

Officials from both groups said this week they hope residents can attend both meetings. The commissioners meeting is scheduled be held in the second-floor auditorium and the town-watch meeting in the first-floor court room.

The commissioners meeting will focus on the New Jersey Government Aggregation Plan, which allows a municipality to pool energy usage of all its residents to obtain lower electricity rates than would be available on an individual basis and to protect the ratepayer.

Under the plan, electric utility service would still be provided by PSE&G. Participation would allow the community’s electric utility usage to be pooled to obtain a lower rate and help lower each participant’s bill.

In the other meeting, Haddonfield police, neighborhood watch advisory board members and the public will get news about crime in the borough and how to get involved in the neighborhood watch.
