Collingswood to Install Median With Fountain to Slow Traffic on Haddon Avenue

Construction on the project is scheduled to begin in September.

Collingswood officials have announced plans to install a traffic island with a fountain in the center in an effort to slow down traffic on Haddon Avenue, the Courier Post reports.

The median, which will be about 15 feet wide, will be placed on the 600 block of Haddon Avenue, between the LumberYard and Sapori, according to the report.

Funds for the $150,000 project will come from the LumberYard project, and construction is set to begin in September, according to the report.

How does the fire equipment get by this stupid idea?

I agree with Mel. On another note; we are STILL waiting for the crosswalks to be repainted and proper signage posted (putting a crosswalk sign directly at the crosswalk does NOT slow drivers). It appears they will have to eliminate several parking spaces to make this work. Will the town be putting meters in the Wawa parking lot to make up for the loss of income?!~?!

This will be great for the ambulances and other emergency vehicles that need to get by on their way to Lourdes and Cooper.

Cara - they can still go down Maple Avenue at 50 MPH with zero problem. Nothing will ever be done about that, and the speeders know it.
