Bancroft Gets Grant from Verizon

The $7,500 grant will fund interactive learning tools.

Bancroft, the center for people with developmental disabilities and acquired brain injuries, was recently awarded a $7,500 grant from the Verizon Foundation.

The funds are designated to provide educational technology – such as distance-learning programs – for Bancroft’s special-educational programs, including The Bancroft School in Haddonfield and The Bancroft School at Voorhees Pediatric Facility.

“Education is a funding priority for Verizon,” Jennifer Young, Verizon’s external affairs field director for Southern New Jersey said. “And technology can enable students at all levels to get the most out of their educational opportunities. We’re very pleased to help fund such opportunities at Bancroft.”

Bancroft's main campus is at 425 Kings Highway East. Young presented the check recently and saw a demonstration of an interactive white board or “smart board” – which serves as a giant computer screen on a classroom wall in Voorhees.

“Even though the student couldn’t verbally respond, he used a pointer to tap his answers on the smart board and his teacher could see he was following along with her instruction,” Young said.

Bancroft officials are grateful for the funding.

“This grant will make a real difference in the lives of our students," Bancroft President Toni Pergolin said. "We greatly appreciate Verizon for helping to bring the world to our students through technologies like distance learning."
