Haddon Township Graduates as 'One Giant Family'

Haddon Township's Class of 2013 left its mark on the school—and a gift to remember the new alumni by.

One hundred forty-one Haddon Township High School students officially became alumni Thursday as the school graduated its Class of 2013.

The class’s, and school’s, small size gave the graduates advantage throughout their four years, said Michael McCutcheon, student council president.

“This school has nurtured us from the time we were boys and girls, and releases us as men and women,” McCutcheon said. “This Haddon Township student body is one giant family, and I love each and every one of you.”

Students sat in their red and white robes on the football field as a stadium full of well-wishers cheered them on. The students represent a range of talents, from football players who achieved the school’s best record in two decades to thespians who created sold-out musicals and plays. The class also took time to remember one of their own who never got to graduate. Kaela DeJesus died in 2008 as a seventh-grader from meningitis.

Haddon Township’s valedictorian is Juliette Daily (click on the video, above) and salutatorians are Cassidy Leyendecker and Jonathan Edmondson.

The Class of 2013 left behind a gift for the school—helping to fund wireless connectivity at the athletic fields and the stadium press box. They also made a donation to the Goodwin Holocaust Museum and Education Center in honor of the Holocaust survivors who spoke to them just a few weeks ago.

Now Haddon Township’s graduates are off into the world, with many planning their next steps at college. All told, the class received $895,320 in scholarships and financial aid for college.
