School Budget Introduced in Haddon Township
The school board favors a 2-percent budget increase—the maximum allowed under state law without voters getting a say at the polls.
The Haddon Township Board of Education introduced a $33.99 million budget Tuesday that will boost spending by $481,000 over last year.
The new budget will mean a typical homeowner in the township will pay an additional $73.30 in school taxes, on top of about $4,000 they pay annually now.
The board cited improvements to special education and student support, the restoration of some programs and services eliminated in previous budgets, and the preparation for new state regulations on testing, for the budget increase.

The 2-percent hike in the tax levy, to $22.23 million, keeps the district under the state mandate for budget increases and will avoid a referendum vote on April.
The budget must be presented to state education officials this week for review.

The board has scheduled a meeting on March 27 for a public hearing of the budget before a final adoption.
